A dry course on sandy soil, it remains playable throughout most of the year, with only the most extreme conditions hampering play.
From the 244-yard opening par 3, where the drive is over a valley to a small green cut into a hill, to the highly acclaimed par 5, 14th hole, golfers are confronted with numerous and memorable challenges.
Imagine standing on the first tee with trees either side of the fairway, looking onward to the green which is cut into a hillside 240 yards away. You’ll require your best shot that you'll hit all day to carry the ball onto the putting surface. As par 3s go, this one is a true test of golf!
The golf commentator, Peter Alliss, rates the 1st as one of the toughest opening holes around. But in the words of Henry Cotton, “There is no finer hole than that of the 14th at Meyrick Park.”
